"The Lost Years of Merlin"

Book: The Lost Years of Merlin
Author: T.A Barron
Pages:1-75
Week:3/3/14
Prompt: Summarize what you just read.

The beginning of the book starts with a boy (Merlin) washing up on ashore with the waves of Wales splashing on the sand. He doesn't seem to remember his name or anything else all he knows is a strange lady named Branwen is his mother named him Emrys. Branwen from what I know is a sorceress she heals people but with bad and good spells. Branwen and Emrys (Merlin) are not very like in there village. The towns people dont like Branwen because of her sorcery and Merlin is teased and picked on as the outcast.

Opinion: To me Branwen seems like she is an evil person trying to control Merlin.

(This is where it gets confusing) Emrys - Merlin
Emrys end up going on a journey to find who he is, he leaves his mother to go on a journey that will forever change his life. Emrys tries to find his real home and on his way he meets up with many extraordinary challenges and people. He fist builds a raft and gets away from his village. While on the raft he ends up stoping at a forest and entering the magical land of Fincayra. Then that is where Emrys meets up with a girl of the Druma named Rhiannon. She tells him of how he has to help her safe her people from the blight that will end up terminus the forest she live in. Merlin initially says no intending to find his memories of when he was little first.

While they are arguing they get ambushed by a group of Goblins. While they are scared Emrys uses his new found powers to protect himself and not Rhiannon. The Goblins see this and they go after Emrys. Till Rhiannon tricks them to take her and not Emrys. Later Emrys vows to safe her and now he has to fight his way through the goblins fortress.

  2. I was always interested in fantasy books, and seeing how enthusiastic you seem to be by this book, I would think that it's worth a try. But since my terrible luck has led me to a summary, I now know the first 75 pages of this book.

  3. Is this a book from the Battle of the Books reading ist? Because I've seen a lot of blogs on it, but I found yours to stand out from the crowd. I agree with Nadrian, I like fantasy books too, but I find them a bit hard to read. You made "Merlin" easier to understand in your summary, which I think is a good skill to have.

  4. Gustavo,

This is a really good blog! Are you really into fantasy books? Your book reminds me a lot of Percy Jackson. You added a lot of details and it was easy to catch up on what you read. Great Job!!

  5. Gustavo,
Great blog this week, I really enjoyed it! I think this looks like a really interesting book, and I've seen a lot of people reading it lately (for Battle of the Books.) This book seems jam packed full of information, because you have a pretty long summary, and the character seems to have experienced a lot for only 75 pages of the book! I think this sounds like a very fun book to read, and it sounds interesting. I'm not normally into fantasy books, but I think you did a great job making the book understandable, and sound interesting! I think I will be reading this book soon! So, overall great job with your blog this week, and I look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future.
