Book Talk: Walk Two Moons

Written Transcript:

The book I am going to talk to you about is Walk Two Moons, By: Sharon Creech. This book is realistic fiction and is based on a young girls adventure. This girl is Salamanca Tree Hiddle we learn about her story not while its happening but when she talks to her grandparents about it. Well the story takes place in Euclid, Ohio. She and her father decided to move there after her mother mysteriously disappeared. While in Ohio she becomes friends with Phoebe Winterbottom a young girl with a vivid imagination. When Phoebes mother also mysteriously disappears Sal helps Phoebe find her which is another story inside of a story.Later in the story though Phoebes mother comes back home. After that they return to the normal tie that the story is being told at. They return to that time because at that point her grandmother was having a stroke and needed to be taken to the nearest hospital. While at the hospital Sal finds out her mothers died from a car crash. This resolves the major conflict in the book but when she gets back to the hospital she finds out her grandmother died in the hospital. The book ended at a tragic moment in Sal's life which is why I believe the book is a tragic story.

The reason this book interested me was because of the lesson that it teaches. The lesson that is tough throughout the book which you find out after reading the whole book even the unimportant parts is. "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." This particular quote is said by Sal's father which reminds me of another wise character in To Kill A Mocking Bird (Atticus Finch). Since I first read this book that is the quote that has reminded me of this book and is why I chose this book to blog about. Overall this is a great book that should be read by all because of the countless lessons taught throughout this book, but also because its just a great book to read.
